 [770Notation]

In that terrible ship that's just shocked the world,
The greatest disaster yet known,
We're men of great wealth who boldly faced death,
To help others reach home sweet home [Note 770.1]
Brave Captain Smith who died at his post
Be British he cried and it can't be denied
Yankees and Britons together they tried
Saving strangers and ones they loved most

Chorus : And the band was playing as the ship went down
                   Nearer My God to Thee
Men gave their lives to save those of their wives,
Out on that ice bound sea
And those hero's playing knowing too well
That in the end they must drown
While some were praying they continued playing
                   As the ship went down

The crew did their duty in saving the lives,
Of the women children on board,
Facing death with courage that all sea men have,
To their fam' lies they'll ne'er be restored
Southampton the home of the crew of most of the crew,
Just think for yourselves what their dear ones went through,
The breadwinner gone to help them our due,
All the world mourns the loss of these men

Fancy band playing knowing that death,
Would come in few minutes time,
Nearer My God to Thee how true these words,
To that brave band of their prime
Whilst a darling old wife to her husband would cling,
The crew said come mother, she said no such thing
We've been years together why tears it must bring
To those hero's who pictured the scene
