The Dictionary of the Scots Language says that 'spoach' can mean 'to look for or to seek'. The OED says it can mean to 'to hunt or rummage for something' and that the word is Scottish (chiefly southern) and English regional (Northumberland). 'sproach' may be a variant meaning to travel for a purpose.
