Strictly speaking Titanic was not an Ironclad, that term being used for a warship: covered wholly or partly with thick plates of iron or steel as a defence against shot, shells and originally applied to wooden vessels.

The general opinion is that the ships carpenter who rushed onto the bridge to inform Captain Smith that the forward compartments were flooding fast was John Hall Hutchinson. His body, if recovered, was never identified.
