A young Irishman travels to Scotland in search of work. He is employed as a Navvy working for a ganger named Green. Following and argument with Green the hero and him and a colleague murder Green and flee to Liverpool where the hero hides with a friend. The hero is betrayed to the authorities, tried and condemned to death.
