Stephenson began his railway work at Killingworth, Wylam and Hetton collieries (see bar153~Hetton Coals) This song contributes to his "misplaced reputation as 'the father of the locomotive', as portrayed by Samuel Smiles, ably assisted by Stephenson himself,". His contribution to locomotive design was based on work by Richard Trevithick (see bar051~Camborne Hill)
