[Note 153.7] "The waggon way and a' is done":- The Hetton colliery railway was opened in 1822 by the Hetton Coal Company at Hetton Lyons, County Durham. It was the first to be designed from the start to be without animal power, and was George Stephenson's first entirely new line.
