[Note 097.2]

The long hours worked by Drivers and others was a cause of widespread concern during the 1880s. The general public were supportive of railway servants and this song may be a gentle hint to the Chairman of the Great Western that he should have concern for the welfare of his employees. Nothing has been discovered about the author so we don't know if he had any special reason for his sympathies. This song was almost certainly aimed at the middle and upper-class market. No cheap printing has been found.
