Alexander Anderson of Kirconnell (1845-1909) wrote a series of poems published in 1878 as Songs of the Rail
Anderson became a surfaceman or platelayer on the Glasgow and South-western railway in 1862.

Many songs of the rail deal with the dangers of railway work.
